DC motor VS Stepper

I've read and watch your tutorial comparing DC motor with encoder and Stepper motor.
One question remains for my project.
How smooth can the DC motor with encoder make a small step ? And what is the range/dynamic of it between short step, slowly, and long step very fast ?
Does this technique offers good acceleration aswell ?
To explain a little bit more about my project :
I want to create a pan/tilt mirror like this one : https://www.claypaky.it/en/products/ReflectXion
Meaning infinite turn, and both side mirrored.
Do you think I should better focus on DC motor ? Also, do you have recommandations to make infinite turn but get rid of the wire issue ?

Hi Leni. Both brushed DC motor or step motor are ok in this case. Step motors would be more easy to control. With brushed motors you need the feedback encoder but also maybe a gearbox, otherwise the control is not precise at all. So the precision depends on the gearbox ratio of course...
