I am new to this world of electronic,

I bought a Sharp 2y0a21 sensor for the PID PING PONG TUTORIAL and I have a problema with it,
the maximum range that I am getting is 30 cm, after that I receive only weird responses from the sensor,

Do you know what may be going on here? on the datasheet the range for this sensor is 10cm-80cm.

Hi there. That sensor should work up to 80 cm yes. But the bigger is the distance, the bigger should the object be as well. If you want to use it with the ping pong ball, imagine taht after 30-40 cm, the object is so small, the IR light from the sensor can't make the difference anymore between the object and the background. The light from this sensor is cone shape so the bigger is the distance, the bigger the cone will get. For more distance you should use a bigger object or a better sensor, maybe a laser based one...

The sensor might not provide accurate readings mapquest if it is tilted or placed at an angle.
